Bigger Lift Trucks Means Bigger Load Weights

Bigger Lift Trucks Means Bigger Weight

A large construction company that focuses on micro tunnelling was looking for a weighing solution. Based out of Ireland with projects in both the UK as well as North America they were looking to effectively understand the weight of the large boring drill bits. With tunnels more than 3 meters in diameter theses drill heads can weigh up to 18,000lbs and require certainty about support chains and transportation to and from the job site. Estimating incorrectly could result in damaged equipment, broken crane chains, overloading transportation axels and worst of all employee safety. The difficulty this construction company was having is that outdoor job sites cannot offer an overhead crane with a scale attachment. And with the ongoing boring of the tunnel between the entry and the exit pit requires multiple drill heads that must be brought in and out.

A Cost-Effective Weighing Solution for Any Lift Truck

One piece of equipment that is always present regardless of the job site is a large pneumatic forklift ranging from 20,000 pounds capacity up to 40,000 pounds or higher. This ensures that the equipment on its way into the job site or out is moved with ease. One of their forklift suppliers servicing their lift trucks at several sites was aware of their requirement and offered a cost-effective solution.
