Electric Pallet Truck Scales: Small Spaces and Small Investments Equal Big Returns

In all operation facilities space is always a factor in the production outcome. Too much space is the burden of cost. Too little is the potential compromise of productivity and output. At IVDT we have had the opportunity to work with some of the largest global manufacturers and retailers throughout North America and the world. However just as important are those businesses and operations that operate in small spaces and the creative ways, we can work together to impact productivity. One such operation that we have become familiar with and a partner to are the numerous food banks that exist in every city in North America. Working with no end and with minimal resources these not-for-profit organizations rely often on volunteers and donations to the get the job done. Providing nourishment to those less fortunate with dignity requires a tremendous amount of creativity and ingenuity.

Every City in North America

All cities in North America have Food Banks of various sizes but the majority rely on smaller strategically placed depots to serve the various metropolitan communities. With spaces ranging from 20,000 down to 3,000 square feet. The entire floor space must be utilized to maximize effectiveness. As non-perishable food donations received often on palleted skids or added too during the collection process it must be ready for distribution. All foodbanks rely on weight of the palleted product for both inventory and reporting purposes. ‘Food banks weigh the food they receive to measure how much they process, and to calculate the net receipts after spoilage. They also use the weight of donated food to determine its value for annual reporting to donors and supporters.’ With such little space available the use of a floor scale simply would impede output and compete for space. That’s where SkidWeigh and its electric pallet truck scales have contributed.

SkidWeigh ED2/3 and the Next Generation SC5

Since the inception of IVDT’s electric pallet truck scales with the ED2 and ED3 over 13 years ago, Food Banks have recognized the value. With no space to spare but every not-for-profit facility utilizing a pallet truck it was easy to retro fit an existing pallet truck with a weighing system and give up no productive space in he processes. Every load could be weighed at any given part of the production cycle with accuracy and reliability. The SkidWeigh pallet truck series scales are a relatively small ‘one time’ investment cost to receive an ongoing daily return that contributes to the financial viability of the organization. With all OEM’s and material handling dealers able to source and install SkidWeigh scales access and support is simple and effective. In addition, IVDT also offers SkidWeigh Plus ED4 models that allow more sophisticated operations to transfer data wirelessly to the network through RF technology eliminating paper record and or printing. Also newer to the material handling market is the SkidWeigh Classic SC5 just as effective and accurate as the former ED series in a newly developed compact more rouged enclosure.
