OSHAX: Solving Managements
Safety Objectives

Case Study #5:
Reaching 100% Forklift Safety Compliance

OSHAX: Solving Managements Safety Objectives

A Canadien beverage company with 11 forklifts and 37 operators was looking to increase their consistency when it came to pre-shift safety checks. Having gone through a series of ministry audits they were compliant in all areas; however, they had gaps when it came to accounting for documented pre-shift safety checks. Running 3 eight hours shifts they found that the 7am to 3pm shift was the most consistent with both performing and documenting those forklift safety checks. This was the result of both lead management and their health and safety team working and being present during the day shift. What they noticed was that the subsequent shifts and especially the 11pm to 7am, also known as the skeleton shift, was where they had gaps sometimes missing for a period of days. Looking for a way to get on top of that without the need to hire or place additional management on later shifts they added IVDT’s OSHAX daily operational activity recorder.

The OSHAX system was cost effective with an extremely simple installation process that their lift truck dealer could manage in about an hour. Even more simple was its automatic pre-shift safety check awareness option that prompted the operator to perform the safety. The system as soon as it is powered on recognizes if that vehicle has a completed safety with an assigned operator identity in the form of a 3-digit passcode. If not, the system will illuminate with a color strobe and sound an alarm to all that the vehicle requires a pre-shift safety check. The safety check itself is ministry and or OSHA compliant and walks the operator through the required questions to inspect the vehicle. The information is then recorded on the system and details what operator, what vehicle the pass or fail response to each safety question along with the time it took to complete the safety check. Stamped with time and date this gave the management all the information needed to be 100% compliant on not just the third shift but all three.

Available to all material handling dealers the system is compatible with all types of material handling vehicles including walkies, aerial platforms, side loaders and telescopic vehicles.
